School Daze

Well, it's done. Linc is at school and we are off on our day. I am sitting in the waiting room at the doctor's office, and Sam and Nico are at home eating breakfast and planning a morning of epic crafts undisturbed by cries of "Dad, Linc is getting on the table!"

The whole thing was all very bizarre as the weather has suddenly turned cool, and we had to dig long sleeve shirts and jackets out of the closet this morning in the middle of the crazy new attempt at a school prep routine. Then, out into the cool morning, waiting in line for a spot in the school parking lot with the reflection of brake lights on our faces while Linc busily removed his shoes and socks in the backseat.

We didn't even cry, if you can believe it. It helped that Linc thought the whole thing was incredibly entertaining. He loved walking in to school with all the kids, loved the giant decorated bulletin boards lining the walls, loved the classroom full of kids and toys.  We didn't get so much as a wave goodbye when we left because the kids were all standing up together saying the pledge of allegiance, which anyone knows trumps saying goodbye to your parents any day.

The house was oddly quiet without him, and we walked around in a daze for a few minutes until I had to leave. But, all in all, it wasn't as bad as we expected. We know tomorrow might be a little harder as he starts to realize this wasn't a one time play group kind of thing, but maybe he'll surprise us and just fall easily into the routine. I guess you never know what to expect with this kid, but truth is, that's part of the fun.

The pictures are blurry, by the way, because he was having too much fun to slow down!
